AncestryDNA has updated how it predicts certain close-family relationships. Instead of relying primarily on the total number of centimorgans you share with one DNA match, Ancestry can now examine patterns of DNA sharing among networks of shared matches.
In this video, I’ll show you what has changed in the DNA Match List and explain how Ancestry uses shared matches, clusters, family trees, and AI-based technology to produce more specific relationship estimates. We’ll also look at the redesigned Common Ancestor view, the G Rule for identifying cousin relationships, and how DNA Painter can help you evaluate the other relationships that may fit the shared centimorgan amount.
These predictions may be improving, but they are still research clues. Every proposed connection should be verified with family-tree evidence and reliable records.
