AncestryDNA’s New ThruLines & Family Tree Views (August 2026) BIG Improvements for Your DNA Research

Genealogy TV

Ancestry has begun rolling out a redesigned ThruLines experience, and in this video I’ll show you what’s new, how it works, and why I think it’s a major improvement for DNA research.

We’ll explore the new ancestor and descendant views, compare the new layout with the classic version, and look at how Ancestry is helping us evaluate DNA matches more effectively. I’ll also demonstrate how to review suggested relatives before adding them to your family tree and explain why ThruLines should always be treated as a research hint—not proof.

In this video you’ll learn:

  • The new ThruLines ancestor and descendant views
  • How to switch between vertical, horizontal, and classic layouts
  • What the dashed and solid relationship lines mean
  • How to evaluate suggested relatives before adding them to your tree
  • Why ThruLines is more useful than ever—but still requires traditional genealogical research
  • How to leave feedback while this feature is still in beta

If the update has reached your account, I’d love to hear what you think. Does it seem more accurate? Let us know in the comments!
